Worship at Bethany

Christian Education, Missions, & Outreach Notes

  • Bethany Baptist church will be involved in Frosh Week at Algonquin College in a popcorn outreach to the students. We need volunteers to man the table for 2 hours and hand out popcorn and talk with the students about spirituality and Bethany as the closest church to the college residence. Please see Pastor Maryann for details.
  • We are also discussing a Sleighride and Supper for Early 2010. Volunteers are needed to help organize the cooking, the ride, and the games afterward. Please see Gerry Brinkman if you want to be involved!
  • Dates have been set for several upcoming events. There will be an upcoming Youth fundraiser on Sunday, September 13. It will be a pancake brunch after church in the gymnasium. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward their trip to Acquire the Fire on October 23 in Hamilton. Our annual Sunday School Rally and registration will take place on Sunday, September 20. Missionaires Sunday will follow on Sunday, September 27, and Sunday School will begin on October 4. This will be followed by a Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 24. The Christmas Pageant will be held on December 13.
  • Missions work is holding the Great Bethany Baptist Church Underwear Drive for Rwanda! Throughout the month, we will be accepting donations of basic cotton underwear for prisoners in Rwanda, and will also be accepting donations of school supplies for children, and monetary support on behalf of Just Equipping, our ongoing outreach to Gatsata, Rwanda. By the time this newsletter is published, we will also have provided support to outreach work in Panama of $1000 and the proceeds of a special offering to Wesley Hynd, who fellowships at the CBOQ member Murray Street Baptist Church in Peterborough and is gathering support for the work of the Gospel in Panama!
  • The CEM&O Commission is also planning on organizing a Marriage Alpha course for the fall and winter, possibly in conjunction with Bromley Road Baptist Church. The course will run 17 weeks, and will likely alternate between the two churches. All interested couples should contact Pastor Maryann for more details.
  • Did you know Bethany Baptist church has a library? Pick out a book! Sue Duff or one of the library volunteers can assist you!

The CEM&O Commission meets on the first or second Wenesday of the month from August to May. If you have something you might want us to discuss, please contact Gerry Brinkman, the current chair of the commission.
